React Native: Could not find property ‘MYAPP_RELEASE_STORE_FILE’

I faced this issue while trying to sign the React Native app on my Windows 10 PC. Here is a solution to fix that error.

The most confusing part is the official guide for Android installation. It covers only linux/mac systems with instructions like “Edit ~/.gradle/gradle.properties” (tilda in the path is specific to unix-like OS).

Someone can think that this path is similar for “C:\Users\MY_USER\.gradle\gradle.properties“, but it’s not.

Resolving error Could not find property ‘MYAPP_RELEASE_STORE_FILE’

So, if you did not set gradle properties correclty, you will get the error when trying to realease the app:

Could not find property 'MYAPP_RELEASE_STORE_FILE'

This is caused by the first parameter of signing configuration in build.gradle file:

storeFile file(MYAPP_RELEASE_STORE_FILE)

To fix that you need to set signing parameters into YOUR_PROJECT/android/gradle.properties. This is the correct place to set gradle params on Windows OS.

MYAPP_RELEASE_STORE_FILE=KEYSTORE_NAME.keystore
MYAPP_RELEASE_KEY_ALIAS=YOUR_ALIAS
MYAPP_RELEASE_STORE_PASSWORD=*****
MYAPP_RELEASE_KEY_PASSWORD=*****

But then you should exclude that file from the git/version control repository? Otherwise you upload your password into public space..
